In conjunction to Thunderbird Stadium renovations, the $1.1 million Academic Centre began construction as of Spring 2015. The Centre will aid in the academic development of the Varsity football team and provide a new space for achieving academic excellence. As part of the 13th Man Foundation, this 1,800 square foot facility is the first of its kind in Canada, enabling current and future Varsity football athletes to excel both on and off the field. For more information and renderings of the facility, visit the 13th Man Foundation’s website linked here.

The new learning facility for the Varsity Football team opened October 2015. With support from the 13th Man Foundation and the University, learning will not only happen on the field but off the field as well. This Centre will aid in bringing academics to the forefront of the football team and help recruit future prospects for the football organization. Sitting adjacent to Thunderbird Stadium, players now have a space all their own to focus on school as much as they focus on their sport. The generous donation from the 13th Man Foundation given to UBC football Academic Centre leads the UBC’s start an evolution campaign, “the most ambitious fundraising and alumni engagement campaign in Canadian university history.”
